FROM PASSION TO PROFESSION: The Inspiring Journey of Dymon ’18 and Alaysia ’20 through the ASPIRE Nurse Scholars Program

August 6, 2024

Dymon Webb and Alaysia Dupree, sisters and alumni of Saint Martin de Porres High School, discovered their passion for nursing at a young age. Thanks to Saint Martin’s connection with the ASPIRE Nurse Scholars Program, Dymon and Alaysia have been able to pursue their dreams without the financial burden of college tuition or costs of state exams and lab resources. They also have been able to build some important relationships and connections in the healthcare world through the ASPIRE program.

While a student at Saint Martin, Dymon remembers the day a representative from the ASPIRE Nurse Scholars Program came to the school. Already an active student through her participation on both the volleyball and softball teams, she immediately knew the ASPIRE program was for her because of her passion for healing and a desire to make a difference in the lives of children. As she navigated the rigorous program, ASPIRE became more than just a support system—it became a family. Building lasting relationships with fellow students and mentors, Dymon is grateful for this opportunity and glad she was able to share this journey with her sister. When discussing her next steps after graduation, Dymon dreams of specializing in pediatrics, eagerly seeking opportunities at renowned institutions like Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital or MetroHealth and hopes to become like one of the compassionate nurses who helped her premature brother during his time at the hospital.

During Alaysia’s time at Saint Martin, she played volleyball, softball, and was a member of the National Honor Society. She explained that her Corporate Work Study job at the Attorney General’s Office helped her become more organized and better at multitasking, skills that easily transferred to her time in the ASPIRE Nurse Scholars Program. Alaysia’s journey led her to secure a full-time position in the cardiac unit at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic, a testament to her hard work and the unwavering support of the ASPIRE program. She spoke very appreciatively of the support and guidance she received from her advisors at Saint Martin and the ASPIRE program. She too is grateful for the connections this program allowed her to build.

Both sisters graduated from Ursuline College in May with their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees. Beyond the financial assistance, Saint Martin and the ASPIRE program have been a catalyst for growth for these two sisters. Their journey is a testament to the transformative power of education and mentorship. As they embark on the next chapter of their lives, Dymon and Alaysia carry with them learned lessons, well-built relationships, and the unwavering determination to make a difference—one patient, one life at a time.
